Dont underestimate the SLA's role in accountability. For companies that have dynamic requirements and no down time can be afforded, make sure you have very tight SLAs. For example, OpSource provides a 100% SLA in the cloud and 100%SLA around production application environments. Now 100% is ideally perfect, it comes down to accountability, yo...

100,000 Physicians Actively Use Epocrates on the iPhone

Epocrates, Inc. today announced that more than 100,000 physicians are routinely using its clinical software on the iPhone™ platform. This frequent use places Epocrates among the elite top five percent of iPhone applications actively used more than a month after download. By supporting the iPhone device since its launch, Epocrates continues its position as the leader in mobile medical software. With products also available on BlackBerry®, Palm® and Windows Mobile® devices, Epocrates has an active network of more than 750,000 healthcare professionals. On average, these clinicians are accessing more than 10 million monographs per month in Epocrates to check dosing, interactions, health plan coverage and more.

“With a decade to refine our clinical content and mobile applications, we have established Epocrates as the most frequently used guide at the point of care with physicians using it more than six times per day,” said Jeff Tangney, president and chief operating officer for Epocrates. “The iPhone platform has been a terrific vehicle for us to continue to innovate, introducing new features physicians have fully integrated into their workflow.”

Epocrates has maintained its ranking as the top free medical application by providing concise, up-to-date clinical information health professionals need at the point of care. Unique product features in the free Epocrates® Rx drug and formulary guide include pill pictures, clinical tables, health plan coverage, medical calculators and specialty DocAlert® clinical messages. Beyond physicians, several hundred thousand subscribers, including nurses, pharmacists and even health-minded consumers, are actively using Epocrates on the iPhone. The quality drug content is developed by the company’s in-house team of physicians and pharmacists, and is credited in helping to prevent medical errors weekly.

“It is invaluable having so much medical information with me at all times. It makes my patients safer and my job easier,” said Dr. Mark Wilson. “I show my patients something on Epocrates like pill pictures or a drug interaction at least once a day.”

“I have been using Epocrates for nine years, and frankly don’t know how I’d practice medicine without it,” said Dr. Peter Rugg. “I use it every day in my practice and love having it on my iPhone to check for a drug interaction or look-up a treatment recommendation whenever I need it.”

To further support daily clinical decisions and subscribers’ needs, the company launched the Epocrates® Essentials premium suite in January and added an over-the-counter (OTC) drug module in July. The enhanced premium version includes an infectious disease guide, hundreds of laboratory tests, convenient medical calculators and tables, information on alternative therapies, peer-reviewed disease content and evidence-based differential diagnosis developed in conjunction with the BMJ Group. With the new OTC content, physicians and pharmacists are able to easily access the latest information for hundreds of brand name OTC drugs and identify potential adverse reactions or drug interactions.
