JavaOne 2006 News Dvorak: Sun Marketing is Outdated
Industry Commentator John C. Dvorak Talks to SYS-CON.TV
By: Java News Desk
Jul. 13, 2005 06:15 PM
PC Magazine and Marketwatch columnist John C. Dvorak was interviewed by SYS-CON.TV's Roger Strukhoff at the JavaOne Conference in San Francisco.
During the interview, Dvorak was asked about the relevance of Sun and Java today, given Sun's seeming loss of prestige over the past few years. He noted that Sun had been an unconventional player in its early days, but said that its way of marketing tiself today is outdated. Refusing to do the brand-building marketing activities common to competitors such as IBM and HP, Sun could find itself competing solely on price, an approach that Dvorak says "could get it killed."
