Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Volantis Enhances Scalability & Integration in Mobile Content Storefront
Includes out-of-the-box integration with Oracle Communication Services Gatekeeper

Volantis Systems, a member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork, has announced that it has added enhanced scalability and integration to the latest version of its Mobile Content Storefront. This latest release of Volantis Mobile Content Storefront includes out-of-the-box integration with Oracle® Communication Services Gatekeeper (OCSG), support for JCR (Java™ Content Repository or JSR-170) and enhanced integration with third-party content management systems (CMS).

An integral part of the Volantis Content Delivery Platform (CDP), Volantis Mobile Content Storefront is a platform for wireless carriers and content providers to acquire, market, sell and distribute digital content through a variety of channels and devices. Volantis Mobile Content Storefront lowers the cost and complexity of managing multi-channel storefronts while providing improved subscriber reach for the content provider. The resulting improvement in user experience contributes to an increase in transaction completion rates and operator revenues.

“We are pleased to work with Volantis' Mobile Content Storefront to streamline support for third party content, expanding value-added services including messaging and payments on mobile devices,” said Kapi Attawar, Vice President of Alliances & Channels for Oracle Communications. “By simplifying and productizing the integration of OCSG, Volantis is also further reducing the time-to-market for companies developing mobile storefront sites.”

“These latest enhancements to our Storefront platform make it even easier for our customers to design, deliver and manage content in order to provide the best mobile user experience on any device,” said Mark Watson, CEO of Volantis Systems. “As mobile device usage and the number of mobile devices continues to grow, our integration with Oracle and added support for JCR not only speeds content delivery but also reduces the costs associated with managing that content.”

Integration with Oracle
OCSG is a Web-SOA-telecom platform that automates the management of third-party partner access to the service delivery platform (SDP) while protecting access to an operator’s core network resources including messaging, call control, charging, location and subscriber profile. The Volantis Mobile Content Storefront now includes components for direct integration with OCSG v4.1 for both inbound and outbound messaging. The integration supports SMS-based service discovery and requests for content or subscriptions. Message-based delivery of content through OCSG is also supported via SMS, MMS and WAP Push. Billing/payment integration with OCSG is also provided, including support for both pre-paid and post-paid subscriber plans.

Support for JCR
With added support for JCR as an underlying content store, Mobile Content Storefront also now features enhanced scalability to allow millions of content items to be managed. This support offers a new alternative to the existing subversion-based content repository and allows for the use of a relational database for the content storage (persistence layer) including Oracle 11g RAC. The use of JCR with Volantis Storefront is recommended for larger content repositories with hundreds of thousands to millions of content items. The content repository API for Java was developed under the Java Community Process(SM) as JSR-170.

External CMS Integration
Mobile Content Storefront now also incorporates a new open interface for design-time CMS integration. This allows users of Storefront's Web-based GUI to access and incorporate content items and assets from external or third-party content management systems which may already be in place in customer environments. It enables operators to leverage their existing investments in content management systems and reduces duplication.
