Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Palm Beach County to Archive SharePoint Data Using Mimosa NearPoint
Growing Florida County Selects Mimosa NearPoint to Provide Archiving, Data Protection and eDiscovery

Mimosa Systems, a provider of next-generation email, file and SharePoint archiving solutions, today announced that Palm Beach County in the state of Florida will be expanding its use of Mimosa NearPoint beyond archiving its Microsoft Exchange Server data to provide comprehensive content archiving, data protection and eDiscovery support for its Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 environment. Ranked one of the top ten fastest growing counties in the nation , Palm Beach County originally selected Mimosa NearPoint following a pilot deployment of its archiving solution for email archiving. Since its initial deployment of NearPoint in 2007 for email archiving, the growing county has since chosen to expand its use of Mimosa NearPoint to archive and protect its rapidly growing SharePoint infrastructure.

Palm Beach County has a population of more than 1.25 million residents and is one of the largest counties east of the Mississippi River.  With its growth has come a greater demand on governmental resources. To meet its increasing resource requirements, Palm Beach County has been modernizing its infrastructure including the broad deployment of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 to support its employee collaboration and information access requirements. Because Florida’s Sunshine Law gives citizens the legal right to request copies of all public records, the County must retain all documents indefinitely. This desire to achieve true information transparency led the county to expand its successful use of Mimosa NearPoint to also embrace the rapidly growing content it houses in its SharePoint collaboration environment.

“We have been exceptionally pleased with NearPoint’s ability to assure information retention, search and recovery for our critical Exchange information,” said Santhosh Samuel, server manager for Palm Beach County’s Information Support Services (ISS) Department, “Now, as our SharePoint environment continues to grow, we saw a natural progression to extend our NearPoint solution to protect the volumes of data housed in our SharePoint system. NearPoint has proven that it can streamline all of our eDiscovery processes by easily producing public records required by the Florida Sunshine Law. It is a natural expansion of our solution to now deploy it to protect, retain and discover our SharePoint content.”

Mimosa NearPoint for Office SharePoint Server 2007 provides the industry with a unique content archive solution that delivers enhanced information management capabilities to address critical requirements for storage cost optimization, recovery, information access, and eDiscovery in a single offering. Providing the most comprehensive capture of SharePoint content, NearPoint for SharePoint captures all content types and preserves relationships between sites and content. The integrated archive and data protection solution delivers continuous capture and offers in-place, item-level recovery, and coarse-grain recovery of SharePoint data.

Mimosa NearPoint for SharePoint will offer Palm Beach County the following advantages:
• Single-instance-storage across all SharePoint content types, e.g. documents, images, as well as across all other archived content (e.g. email, attachments, file system content)
• Seamless end-user access via policy-based, transparent stubbing of SharePoint content
• Centralized retention management for SharePoint content

“The dramatic adoption and widespread proliferation of Office SharePoint Server 2007 sites has created a critical challenge for enterprises, such as Palm Beach County, who wish to protect Office SharePoint Server 2007 content, control storage costs, and preserve and search Office SharePoint Server 2007 content repositories in the face of stringent discovery requirements,” said T.M. Ravi, CEO, Mimosa Systems. “By delivering powerful archiving, search, recovery and eDiscovery features for SharePoint, organizations like Palm Beach County can achieve their information retention and transparency requirements through a single solution that delivers simplified management and lower total storage management costs.”
