Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Xythos Cracks Two-Million Licensed User Mark Thanks To Java
Java and Open Standards Support Given Credit

Xythos Software recently added over twenty new enterprise customers to its client list, growing the total number of licensed users to almost two million. The company says its adherence to open standards-based design has helped continue to increase its appeal to customers seeking technology flexibility and improved content security.

Open standards-based document management solutions have been gaining support from both government and commercial organizations because of their ability to reduce the costs associated with document collaboration -- as well as ease the process of integrating document management functions within existing enterprise applications and portal environments.

The company says that its new customers, which include the United States Joint Forces Command, California State University at both Long Beach and Sacramento, Pittsburgh State University, Queen’s College, and Sudbury Regional Hospital, all benefit from Xythos’ Java-based design in three key areas:

- Unparalleled Flexibility: Xythos customer can choose from a variety of open source and commercial application server, database and storage technologies

- Improved Content Security: Xythos systems leverage standard authentication and encryption methods and can even help eliminate dangerous email file attachments

- Easy Customization and Integration: Xythos’ open API’s, JSR 168 support and comprehensive Java Docs make it the choice of commercial and enterprise developers

Each of Xythos' recently announced product suites now includes a Xythos Developer Studio to further assist Java developers in customizing the new Xythos applications and platform. “Developers continue to express frustration with the complexity of traditional document management systems and are demanding simpler methods to deliver document and file management over the web,” observed Ed Miller, CEO of Xythos. “Xythos is responding to this need with a modular, standards-based approach that helps them integrate document collaboration right inside the applications their users already know and use,” he added.

Xythos Cracks Two-Million Licensed User Mark Thanks To Java. The number of licensed users has now exceeded two million.

Xythos is small, but will probably do well and grow nicely with its market opportunity. The whole system is designed around the use of WebDAV folders. It's IT- and user-friendly.
