Jul. 30, 2005 02:00 AM
IBM is starting a new Blade.org "community" in the name of interoperability and concocting new blade technology on behalf of its BladeCenter. Besides IBM there are eight founding member including NetApp, Brocade, Cisco, Citrix, Intel, Nortel, Novell and VMware.
Eventually there's supposed to be a special IBM BladeCenter Partner Solutions Interoperability Lab and new BladeCenter test tools, BladeCenter solutions centers worldwide and a BladeCenter compatibility and interoperability program.
IBM said more than 260 companies have gotten the BladeCenter specifications since September and more than 350 technology and solution partners are participating in the BladeCenter Alliance Program. IBM has shipped over 200,000 blades since market introduction, the first and only vendor to reach that milestone.
