Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

HP Lacking Strategy, HP User Group Lacking Show
New CEO Hurd Outlaws Consultants, While User Group's Interex Ends

George Colony, the president of Forrester Research, recenty interviewed new HP CEO Mark Hurd (pictured) and later told the New York Times that Hurd doesn't have a strategy to deal with HP, explaining that Hurd hasn't been there long enough to formulate one.

And, according to a piece in the Wall Street Journal, Hurd, who used McKinsey & Company at NCR, has outlawed consultants at HP on the theory that "employees know most everything that a consultant might tell you." The paper says Hurd has gotten upwards of 5,000 employee e-mails, with 320 new ones arriving every day.

Meanwhile, the 31-year-old HP user group Interex has thrown in the towel. It has disbanded and taken its HP World expo with it. Its web site says folding was "financially necessary" and "unavoidable." The new HP-created HP Technology Forum, a rival to HP World, is supposed to extend paid HP World attendees complimentary registration and offer discounted exhibition space to "non-HP competitors exhibiting at or sponsoring HP World 2005." Interex claimed 100,000 members.

Seems like the only thing hurd needs to do is reverse any and all of the changes curly made. after he dumps the rest of the compaq clowns, hp can start on the long road back to a top notch tech company. sad thing is that is will take several years to clean up the mess she made

How can a consumer trust buying an H-P branded product if they support and then don't support, make and then don't make, merge and then don't merge, split and then don't split, etc. etc.? Now they are not going to carry the Apple iPOD anymore! Someone up there stabilize the company by giving it common sense direction, and stick with it.
