The survey reported that the electronic discovery market is projected to grow to $1.28 billion in 2005 -- a 55 percent jump over 2004. The Socha-Gelbmann survey examines the demand for electronic discovery services and software. Sixty-nine law firms, large corporations and electronic discovery providers participated through interviews and a self-paced survey. Socha-Gelbmann also collected information from websites of more than 200 organizations purporting to offer electronic discovery services or software, as well as data from a variety of business and information resources, to reach its conclusions.

The annual survey ranked providers on a set of five criteria: experience and reputation, capacity, types of services offered, consumer ranking, and revenue estimates. The final results were based on a weighted combination of the five criteria, with the Top Five Providers being listed in alphabetical order, without identifying individual ranking within the group.
