Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Six graduate degree programs designed to help prepare professionals to use technology and social media to meet changing business

New Media on Ulitzer

Colorado Technical University (CTU), a leading provider of education to career-motivated students, has launched six graduate degree programs designed to help prepare professionals to use technology and social media to meet changing business demands.

The new programs include two doctor of management degrees - one in emerging media and another in environmental and social sustainability; two doctor of computer science degrees - one in digital systems security and another in emerging media; and two master of science degrees - one in systems engineering and another in enterprise information systems.

All new programs are available nationally in a blended online, executive format, via the CTU Institute for Advanced Studies. Those taking the doctorate programs are required to attend a four-and-a-half-day symposium at the CTU Colorado Springs campus twice a year. Students can learn more about and enroll in these new programs by visiting www.coloradotech.edu/ias.

"By consistently developing career-relevant programs and curricula, we continue to demonstrate our dedication to helping students keep pace with current technologies and job opportunities," said Dr. Wallace Pond, chief executive officer for CTU. "As a leader in technology and science-based education, CTU can provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue success in growing industries."

The new degree offerings include:

  • Doctor of management with a concentration in emerging media. The Nielsen Company recently reported Americans spend 17 percent of their Internet time using social networking sites -- nearly triple the time spent a year ago. Other research shows companies are focusing more resources on emerging media to reach their customers. This doctoral program teaches students how to strategically use today's most popular Web technologies and social media to support organizational goals. Students develop management experience in this area by blending virtual worlds with networking communities such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Doctor of management with a concentration in environmental and social sustainability. As more organizations are recognizing the need to conserve energy and other natural resources, this degree can help professionals acquire the credentials to guide organizational policy and action in a direction that demonstrates concern for profits, people and the planet.
  • Doctor of computer science with a concentration in emerging media. Using a multidisciplinary approach, this degree examines how social networks, new media, web science and virtual worlds are reshaping business. The curriculum explores the ways in which increasingly popular virtual communities can be woven into successful business strategies. Students are challenged to investigate the strategic, social and financial implications of emerging media.
  • Doctor of computer science with a concentration in digital systems security. This doctoral program is designed to provide students with the theoretical, research and application capabilities necessary to pursue career opportunities in digital systems security. Throughout the program, students can gain knowledge and experience in the implementation, evaluation and analysis of digital systems in which security is a primary component.
  • Master of science in enterprise information systems. This degree program equips students with skills needed for coordinating, planning and implementing technical solutions to address organizational issues. The curriculum also focuses on building leadership and team-building skills.
  • Master of science in systems engineering. This program is designed to help computer science professionals pursue increasing levels of responsibility in their career. The curriculum teaches students how to apply industry-current systems engineering tools, processes and standards, operations research, integration, quality assurance and simulation.
