Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Servoy Simplifies SaaS with Hybrid Servoy 5.0
Servoy Is the Only Hybrid Development Platform for the "SaaS and Back" Era

Servoy today announced the fifth generation of its award-winning hybrid SaaS platform, Servoy 5.0 -- the platform that simplifies SaaS. Servoy 5.0 further extends the functionality of Servoy's development and deployment platform, allowing "SaaS and Back" hybrid applications -- which can be deployed as SaaS and on-premises through both a browser and a native client -- all from a single code base.

"The main problem with other platforms is they make products that compete with ISVs," said Jan Aleman, CEO of Servoy. "Unlike Microsoft and Salesforce.com, we don't build end-user software. Instead, we focus on building an award-winning platform that gives our ISVs a competitive advantage in the market. And because our platform is hybrid, customers have the flexibility to run it hosted online -- either on dedicated servers, virtual servers or any form of cloud computing -- and on-premises."

Servoy 5.0 has over 200 improvements, including:

Real time clustering

Real time clustering allows Servoy applications to both scale real time and support load balancing. Rather than needing external hardware or software, Servoy has integrated this functionality to make it seamless for the end user. Over 300 ISVs and a thousand corporate users build on Servoy technology today building the clustering in, making it much easier to scale to multiple servers. Additionally, companies can use the functionality to provide geographic load balancing and fail over.

Drag and drop support

Servoy has extended its drag-and-drop support, including labels, fields, images, buttons, rows of data and more. Any object is both drag-and-drop and drag-over aware. Servoy is even offering this functionality in the web client -- an industry first in seamless drag-and-drop application creation that also works in web browsers.

Run-time form editor

The run-time form editor allows users to create and change the layout of any existing form at run-time and save it persistently across sessions. This function is available in both Servoy's native and web client. Additionally, users can create their own screens and objects at run time. This functionality is critical for SaaS players as it allows them to build, deliver and manage highly customizable applications to their end-users. At the same time, the original structure of the application remains intact.

Servoy 5.0 will be available beginning November 11. Servoy customers with an active subscription plan can upgrade at no cost. Servoy has also made available a free version of its product: Servoy Community Edition. This version -- function wise identical to the paid version -- allows customers to immediately start learning and developing with Servoy without any investment in licenses.
