Windows XP Installation Issues on ACPI Enabled System
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface enables an operating system to control the amount of power given to each device

Microsoft Developer's Journal

ACPI or Advanced Configuration and Power Interface is an industry power management specification. It enables an operating system to control the amount of power required to be given to each device that is connected to the computer system. Thus, it eliminates device management responsibilities for firmware interfaces. However, when ACPI is enabled, your system BIOS might create issues. These problems are typically observed when you try to install Windows XP on your computer. You might be compelled to perform clean installation of Windows XP in such cases to solve the problem. Since the process deletes all the data that is stored on the hard disk, you will need to restore it from the recent data backup available. At times, backup might prove incompetent to restore the required files and folders. To cope up with such problems, you need to use an efficient data recovery tool that could extract the data thus lost.

To illustrate the above scenario, consider that you try to install Windows XP on your computer system, but you fail to do so as you receive the below error message:

ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded
Error Code 7”

Restarting the Setup gives the same error message again.

Cause

As discussed, this error occurs when ACPI is enabled on the computer system and BIOS finds issues with it.

Solution

To solve the issue discussed above, you are suggested to follow these steps:

  • Clean-boot your computer system

  • Disable or remove the antivirus software, if any

  • Try replacing the installation disk

  • If none of the above measure helps, perform a clean installation of Windows XP:

  • Insert the Windows XP installation disk

  • Start the Windows XP Setup Wizard

  • Select New Installation option and follow the instructions as appear on the screen

  • Restore the data lost while the process from backup

You might need to use a data recovery software, in case you find backup invalid or absent. Data Recovery applications are powerful utilities embedded with advanced scanning algorithms to search and restore all the data after any logical crash. These tools provide you complete partition recovery.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is an advanced and fully-featured recovery utility designed for Windows 7 RC1, Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000 based systems.
