Major Announcements Imply Tech Rebound

tremendous flurry of major announcements may indicate that tech is back,
finally, after more than five years of doldrums following the dot-com
bubbleburst that started in the year 2000.
Among
this week’s major announcements:
Oracle
Corporation acquired Siebel Systems, a deal worth more than $5 billion when
Siebel’s cash reserves are included in the mix.
Salesforce.com
announced appexhcange, which it describes as a new way to browse, share, and
install on-demand applications.
Sybase
announced its latest major upgrade with Adaptive Server Enterprise, or ASE, 15,
the first such upgrade in several years
eBay
announced that it is aqcuiring internet telephony company Skype for $2.6
billion.
IBM
launched an aggressive, expanded strategy within the SOA marketplace.
Microsoft’s
Bill Gates demonstrated Windows Vista, Explorer 7 and Office 12 at the PDC
gathering in Los Angeles.
