I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

NetCableTV Announces the Release of the PermissionTV(SM) End-to-End Broadband Television Publishing System
NetCableTV Announces the Release of the PermissionTV(SM) End-to-End Broadband Television Publishing System

SAN FRANCISCO and BOSTON, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- NetCableTV today unveiled its groundbreaking end-to-end PermissionTV(SM) broadband television publishing system at the Digital Living Room Conference in Silicon Valley. Based on the company's NCVml(SM) comprehensive video mark-up language, PermissionTV(SM) is a complete end-to-end system to create and distribute television programming via broadband.

"PermissionTV provides a high-quality television experience that creates a one-to-one relationship with broadband viewers," said Dave Graves, CEO. "It's real television the way people expect it with the added targeting ability, interactivity & rich media elements of the Web."

At the show, the company will demonstrate a sample channel, Update Hollywood produced by Grove Communications Company, Inc., a leading provider of programming for cable TV and in-flight shows. "PermissionTV has been built with content producers like us in mind. It will let us bring stunning video to Internet television for the first time." said Geoffrey Grove, EVP & President Worldwide Marketing for Grove Communications. "We've been seeking a way to give our audience a controllable, on-demand experience that felt like television, not Internet. The answer was PermissionTV."

"In the media business, image is everything," said Sid Ganis, president of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. "The full-screen, high-picture quality of PermissionTV is extraordinary & will finally give content creators a way to deliver programming to audiences through the Web, with no quality compromises!" Ganis is president of Out of the Blue ... Entertainment -- producer of movies such as Mr. Deeds and Big Daddy with Adam Sandler.

NetCableTV's customers are media companies, content rights owners, & aggregators who wish to publish their own branded, broadband TV channels supported by either advertising, pay-per-view, subscriptions or a combination of all three. NetCableTV built PermissionTV to be a comprehensive solution, providing the requisite system, tools, administration, & expertise customers need to build & operate their own branded TV-over-the Web channels.

Underscoring the conference's theme to "Transform the Living Room into a Digital Hub," CEO Dave Graves today joins Ken Papagan of Rentrak on a panel entitled "DVRs, VOD and the Rise of Just-in-Time Video." "A perfect storm is driving the adoption of broadband-delivered video: consumers favor 'any time- any place' video; content providers & advertisers want to stay in front of those consumer eyeballs; & technology innovations in processors, bandwidth & storage are re-defining product capabilities," said Will Richmond, president and founder, Broadband Directions LLC-a leading market research firm. "These trends have combined to create disruptive and significant business opportunities for market participants."

The PermissionTV publishing system has three major components: -- Full set of video asset management tools to prepare and maintain TV channels -- Peer-to-Peer Transport system called PeerAssist(SM) ensuring the lowest cost of distribution -- The PermissionTV desktop manager which includes a program guide and player and manages the user experience, including digital rights management and ad reporting. The manager has a sophisticated XML driven User Interface which plays back high-quality video with DVD- style chapters and complex on-demand advertising events.

The compelling PermissionTV user interface is available as a standalone Flash(R) application that also uses NCVml to manage playback & advertising events but without requiring any program download or installation. This capability allows sites to continue to serve ad hoc video & live streaming video events and to use a single production process for both as well as for other display devices such as cell phones & portable players.

PermissionTV offers a full set of creative tools (including Rich Media overlays, telescoped ads & product showcasing) letting producers create feature-rich programs & better engage their audiences.

The name "PermissionTV" evokes the marketing phenomenon that Seth Godin coined in his best-selling book "Permission Marketing". It's no coincidence that NetCableTV's EVP/Product Dan Lovy was a co-founder of Yoyodyne with Godin. "PermissionTV leverages video to put permission marketing into full motion, helping advertisers secure the permission to fully engage with their customers, for mutual benefit," said Lovy.

"In a world of infinite channels, consumers looking for TV programs will become overloaded with content and frustrated by unhelpful online search," said John Zahner, COO. PermissionTV collects preferences and interests through a process of mutual self-discovery between consumers and media publishers that allow appropriate video to be automatically delivered to the viewer's library.

The NetCableTV Team

NetCableTV unites a solid team of veterans from media, advertising & Internet services. Graves & Lovy were colleagues at Yahoo!. Graves was SVP/Media at Yahoo! & former president of Reuters Media. Lovy was director of Yahoo! B-to-B & previously VP of Engineering of Yoyodyne. Zahner was co- founder of Individual, Inc./NewsEdge & later eLogic. CTO-VP/Engineering Gianni Mariani is a veteran of Microsoft Web TV & SGI.

Availability/Pricing

Demonstrated for the first time at the conference, PermissionTV will be available for purchase & deployment in December 2005. NetCableTV offers a flexible range of pricing models including enterprise sales, per-user fees, & revenue-sharing (depending on customer-needs). Interested parties should contact info@netcabletv.net
