The Server System Infrastructure Forum (SSI), an industry group driving server form factor standards, has released its Micro Module Server Specification 1.0. Apparently Quanta and Tyan are basing some unseen products on the server board and system interface spec. Intel's got a hand in it. Micro servers, generally scale-out, single-socket, entry-level servers designed for lower power consumption and improved density, are supposed to reduce costs and increase product and data center efficiencies. The emerging category is targeted at cost-effective web services, including entry dedicated hosting and fixed function web servers such as static web page serving.
