How is WeVideo different from YouTube? Jostein Svendsen, CEO: Basically, YouTube is for publishing while WeVideo is for editing videos. WeVideo is the perfect complement to YouTube. One of the problems on YouTube today is that a lot of the videos have not been edited, which is largely because of the cost and complexity associated with the available editing tools on the market. WeVideo is an easy and affordable way for anyone to edit their videos before uploading to YouTube or any other online video sharing site.
Do users need to create an account if they only want to watch but not edit videos? Why is WeVideo considered a social platform? Svendsen: WeVideo is a social platform because it combines the power of online video with the power of social networking and collaboration around user generated content. We make video social by enabling anyone to collaborate to create videos with friends, family and colleagues around the world. Can users make their videos "public" when they are finished with editing? Can other viewers make comments and suggestions? Svendsen: Absolutely! After editing their videos on WeVideo, users can publish their finished products on YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter, Facebook, you name it. We have been really intrigued by how interested our Beta users are in this feature. It goes back to WeVideo being a social platform. Who are WeVideo's competitors? Svendsen: WeVideo is the only company making video story telling and full featured collaboration accessible to everyone, anywhere by leveraging the strengths of the cloud. That said, while not true competitors, traditional desk top editing software providers and a few simple, automated online tools may compete for the video editing market. What differentiates WeVideo from these competitors? Svendsen: Relative to the automated online tools, WeVideo gives complete creative freedom with our robust, yet simple-to-use editing capabilities. Relative to the traditional desktop solutions, our platform is set at a price point accessible by all. (Pricing starts at a basic free offering and scales to meet the needs of users for export quality and storage.) WeVideo is cloud-based, eliminating the need for high end computing resources as well as providing the convenience of editing from any location via any browser-based smartphone, tablet or computer. And in both cases WeVideo is the only one to provide a unique social editing environment simplifying the aggregation of video content and enabling friends and colleagues to jointly create and edit video stories. How does WeVideo take advantage of the cloud? Svendsen: WeVideo is leveraging the strength of the cloud to:
Why did you choose to bring video production to the cloud? Svendsen: It was clear that the barriers to video editing could be solved through the cloud and that the cloud could provide unique new opportunities not currently considered like social editing and enabling video creation anywhere, anytime, and in anyplace. What is collaborative editing and how is it different from current editing techniques? Svendsen: The simple answer is social or collaborative editing doesn't exist, so there's no comparison. Social editing has a range of benefits from making it easy to aggregate content to actually doing co-creation. What are the steps in accessing WeVideo products and services? Can video editing also be done through mobile devices? Svendsen: With WeVideo, you simply upload your video clips, create your video and share it from the cloud. There's no software to download. All video story creation takes place in a browser on your smartphone, tablet or computer. What is WeVideo's key benefit for consumers? Svendsen: WeVideo takes the cost, time and complexity out of video production and sharing, while empowering creative control and collaboration through its cloud-based video editing environment. What is WeVideo's key benefit for professionals such as journalists? Svendsen: With WeVideo, professionals and journalists can edit high quality videos anytime, anywhere, and publish quickly without having to return to the office. They can also collaborate with other contributors on a story, including colleagues and the public, therefore producing a more interesting story faster and better than ever before. Is WeVideo limiting the size / length of a video? Would it be possible to do the postproduction of a whole Indie movie on WeVideo? Svendsen: WeVideo offers a variety of storage packages according to the user's needs. With the appropriate storage package, a user can in fact do the entire postproduction of an Indie movie through WeVideo. How much work space does WeVideo offer? Svendsen: WeVideo offers a variety of work space packages that suit the user's needs. It can be from anywhere from a free limited one to advanced and unlimited premium packages. Is WeVideo limited to any specific type of files? Is there a compatibility issue? Svendsen: WeVideo supports virtually any format in and out of our platform. Does WeVideo handle the credits and legalities that come with using copyrighted music in videos? Svendsen: WeVideo is a content creation platform, and the content creators decide where they want to publish their finished products. Publishing platforms like Youtube and VIMEO have solutions in place for this. How much does it cost to use WeVideo? Svendsen: WeVideo pricing starts at a basic free offering and scales to meet the needs of users for export quality and storage. If you offer so much for free, what is your business model, how is the company going to make money? Svendsen: We offer the free package as an entry-level risk-free trial for users to try not only the WeVideo platform but also the use of video as a story telling medium. We hope that as users fall in love with our platform, they will naturally want to upgrade to packages with more storage and HD export. What will be the next milestone for WeVideo? Svendsen: After launching our product in September, we are looking forward to signing strategic partnerships for marketing and distribution, as well as to growing our user base to 100 000 users, then a million and beyond! How is the company funded? Svendsen: Initially, the company was privately funded by the founders of the business. Like all successful serial entrepreneurs in digital media and internet however, the company is currently in talks with leading angel groups and venture funds about further funding of the company. What is your exit strategy? Svendsen: The online video market is growing at an amazing rate, which bodes well for a product like WeVideo. We aren't thinking exit strategy yet. Our focus now is getting users to the platform to enjoy the experience of video editing. Is there anything else that you would like to add? Svendsen: Since WeVideo will soon be available on more devices than any other video editing platform in the world today, we have a fantastic opportunity to become the most loved and widely used video editing software in the world! We're looking forward to having you all experience this new collaborative form of social media! # Based in Sunnyvale, CA, WeVideo is redefining video editing and the craft of storytelling.
