The winners of this year's "LinuxWorld Product Excellence Awards" were presented with their trophies at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in Boston at an Awards ceremony emceed by SYS-CON Media Group Publisher & Editorial Director Jeremy Geelan and captured on SYS-CON.TV for distribution Web-wide. The prestigious "Best of Show" Award, presented at the futuristic Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (pictured) went to the Novell-sponsored openSUSE project.
The Awards, which as in previous years were organized jointly by SYS-CON Media's LinuxWorld Magazine and IDG World Expo, recognize product and service innovations by LinuxWorld exhibitors and were presented in 12 separate categories, plus the “Best of Show” award. The event was recorded by SYS-CON.TV's cameras at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, April 5 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

It would have been nice to see what the criteria was for these awards. That is, I would have liked to see what aspects of the product were considered and even why each product was rated the way it was, especially in comparison to the other products. Or maybe I missed it.

No HP at LinuxWorld this year so no 'Best of Show' for them, or for Sun. Or for Microsoft or for Oracle. Looks like LinuxWorld Boston is on its last legs.
I was surprised at how few attendees there were; maybe it had to do with being the last day of the conference. Those at the booths seemed a little desperate to get rid of their free t-shirts and pens.
I'm probably naive to think this odd, but whereas Red Hat had a large, multi-section booth in front, Fedora was tucked away in the back. Are they pretending that they're not related, at least when having company over?
Brian Proffit & Amy Newman's verdict: "What's the real draw of LinuxWorld? It's clearly no longer a developer/community show. One executive told us he thinks it should be a show for the customers. He might have a point. The question is, can IDG create the kind of energy and program to attract those Linux customers in?"

okay so maybe they weren't there, Sun & co, but some things *never* change at LinuxWorld: Bruce Perens was there, still striving to convince the community that it's time to challenge the patent system...
