Hadoop start-up Hortonworks wrapped its trunk around long-time Oracle architect Greg Pavlik and made off with him, celebrating the capture by naming him VP of engineering. Lately he's been Oracle's VP of product development responsible for its SOA Suite, governance offerings and Application Integration Architecture (AIA) products. He was also on Oracle's External Research Board, responsible for funding academic and research partnerships, and its Architecture Review Board, which provides global oversight for the company's technology initiatives.
He's led the technical direction of Oracle's Web Services strategy and Fusion middleware transaction processing infrastructure. Now he's supposed to drive the development of Hortonworks Data Platform bringing his experience with distributed middleware, real-time analytics and productization to bear. He's expected to build a "world-class" engineering team, and deliver an enterprise-ready data platform. He's reportedly used to growing and managing large enterprise engineering teams. Hortonworks, which spun out of Yahoo, is determined to make the sometimes cantankerous open source widgetry more powerful and at the same time easier to use. Reader Feedback: Page 1 of 1
