JBoss, the Professional Open Source company, has announced first quarter results for 2006. Highlights include an expansion of the company's global reach through new and deepened partnerships with HP, Ten Art-ni and Patni Computer Systems, as well as through the acquisition of Berlin-based objectone GmbH, now JBoss Deutschland; a move by the UK office into larger, permanent offices on Baker Street in London; new executive appointments to support growing operations and development; and delivery of innovative new JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite (JEMS) products and core technologies.
In early Q2, JBoss entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Red Hat, the leading provider of open source solutions to the enterprise. The alignment will help accelerate the shift to service-oriented architecture (SOA) by making innovative, powerful solutions available to developers and customers that seek to lower development and deployment costs. The acquisition is expected to close at the end of May.
"If the results of this quarter are anything to go by, JBoss expects 2006 to be even bigger and better than last year. JBoss has, on many fronts, clearly put in place the systems to scale our business," said Marc Fleury, chairman and CEO of JBoss, Inc. "We're committed to building a strong JBoss ecosystem that provides the best free and open source software and services possible to our customers and an exemplary platform on which our partners can add richer services and be more competitive."
In this quarter, JBoss exceeded its revenue goals and saw record customer adoption in sectors such as financial services, healthcare, telecommunications and retail. JBoss also forged and deepened new and existing global partnerships. HP expanded its alliance with JBoss to support all of JEMS on Linux, Windows and HP-UX 11i platforms. Ten Art-ni, Japan's leading open source systems integrator (SI), and Patni, a global provider of IT services, both signed on as JBoss-certified SIs. In addition to providing JBoss support, migration services and system integration, Ten Art-ni offers the full JEMS training curriculum in Japan, while Patni is establishing a JEMS Center of Excellence focused on sharing methodologies, tools and best practices.
JBoss customers and partners will attend JBoss World, June 12-15, at the Hotel Rio and Casino in Las Vegas. This will be the largest gathering yet of the JBoss community with an expected 1,200 attendees. In conjunction with the conference, JBoss launched the JBoss Innovation Awards program. Winners across 11 categories and a final JBoss Innovator of the Year will be honored at a ceremony during the conference.
Fueled by record growth over the last year, JBoss restructured its management team and appointed new executives to ensure optimum operations and service delivery for a rapidly growing customer base while continuing to drive technical innovation. The new appointments include:
-- Rob Bearden, vice president of sales and marketing, was promoted to chief operating officer.
