Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Canada Pays Tribute to All Who Served at Remembrance Ceremony at Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial

BEAUMONT-HAMEL, France, Nov. 3, 2012 /CNW/ - Many Canadian and French citizens gathered today at the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial, in France, to pay tribute to the men and women who served their countries from the First World War to current missions.

The Government of Canada representative, Vice-Admiral Bob Davidson, Canadian Military Representative to NATO, addressed the gathering on behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs. He was joined by the French Republic representative Mr. Joël Dubreuil, sous-préfet de Péronne.

"Veterans' Week is a time when we pay tribute to all Veterans, past and present. These men and women who have served their country gave selflessly and many paid with their lives," said Minister Blaney. "Today, we remember the staggering losses sustained by the 1st Newfoundland Regiment at Beaumont-Hamel on July 1, 1916. By remembering the men and women who did extraordinary things while protecting our values, we can help future generations continue to appreciate and uphold the values that help form the Canada of today."

"Today, 94 years after signing of the Armistice that ended the First World War, we remember how important it is to keep the memory of that generation of extraordinary citizens alive, a generation that left its mark on many European towns and cities," said Minister Blaney. "There are few places in the world that serve as a greater testament to the incredible history of our nation or to the strength of our people than Beaumont-Hamel. This monument reminds us of the tremendous courage and sacrifices of Canada's Veterans."

Veterans' Week is a time when all Canadians come together to honour those who have sacrificed so much to make our world a safer place. This Veterans' Week, take time to remember by attending a Remembrance Day ceremony, visiting a local cenotaph or monument, sharing your thoughts of remembrance online, or wearing a poppy with pride.
