New Homes Transform Historic Wellingborough Landmark

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 11/09/12 -- WORK to transform a historic quarry site in Wellingborough into a thriving new community is well underway after leading housebuilder Barratt Homes opened the doors to two stylish show homes.

Now the location for 200 new homes to buy, a new pond and a home for the local bat population, the development called Ladywell Park is changing the face of this former industrial site.

During the 1800s the land on Eastfield Road was an ironstone mine. After a brief spell of clay extraction by a brick company, the area was latterly occupied by a number of industrial buildings including a council depot, allotments, sheds and garages.

Over the last two decades these buildings became vacant and under-used and the site was ear-marked by Wellingborough Borough Council for new homes.

Since Barratt Homes was granted planning permission last year the site, named after Lady's Well of Wellingborough, has undergone a number of major changes. Much of the material from the industrial buildings has been recycled and the local wildlife population has been accommodated for in the form of the pond and bat boxes.

Senior Land Manager at Barratt Homes, Ben Thorington said, "Whilst preparing the industrial buildings for demolition, we found evidence of a small number of Pipistrelle and Brown Long Eared bats so installed bat boxes in a number of trees.

"It took around three months for a dedicated team of demolition experts to remove all the old industrial buildings and using the latest sustainability techniques, we were able to maximise the amount of materials we could recycle.

"We were able to re-use a lot of the steel and concrete - most of which has been crushed and used to form new roads at the development.

"We worked very closely with the council to ensure the old quarry land is completely safe and this part now forms a tranquil pond for the enjoyment of local residents."

The three bedroom Providence and Vickery show homes are now available to view at the development. The first phase of new homes at Ladywell Park will feature 80 properties in a mix of two, three and four bedrooms.

Located on the edge of Wellingborough's town centre, residents will benefit from easy access to Northampton, Milton Keynes and Peterborough. Better still; residents will be in walking distance of Wellingborough train station, which provides direct and fast links to London St Pancras International.

Prices for the homes at Ladywell Park currently start from GBP 133,000.
