Tidewater Military Family Services Council Receives Opportunity Hall of Fame Award

RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On October 25, 2012, Tidewater Military Family Services Council (TMFSC) was presented an Opportunity Hall of Fame award by Virginia First Lady Maureen McDonnell in Richmond, Virginia. The awards are part of the First Lady's Initiatives Team Effort (FLITE), which Mrs. McDonnell started in 2010 to acknowledge certain organizations and individuals who exemplify the model of creating a Commonwealth of Opportunity in their communities.

Speaking about the Opportunity Hall of Fame award recipients, Mrs. McDonnell stated, "I launched FLITE because I wanted to recognize great people of our state who are working tirelessly to help others.  These incredible individuals and organizations are making Virginia a better place to live, work and raise a family."

The FLITE Foundation recognizes people and organizations in four key areas:

  • Preventive healthcare and wellness
  • Economic development through promotion of Virginia wine, film, and tourism
  • Service to the military and their families
  • Women in Business

TMFSC was recognized for their service to the military and their families. They were one of four organizations to be acknowledged as one that works to create "a commonwealth of opportunity … doing great works of charity and sacrifice every day." The award included a $2,000 grant to further their work.
