DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., Nov. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Insurance Services is hosting its first Fall Food and Fund Drive from November 1 – 21.  Benefiting Feeding South Florida, the drive is the first initiative under the company's new Universal Cares community outreach program.

"We are pleased to support such a great organization and are very proud to be able to help make a difference in our local community," said Julie F. Smith, coordinator of the drive for Universal.  "Planning the fall food drive has given our entire company the opportunity to learn first-hand about the people in our community that are struggling with hunger every day. We feel privileged to be able to help," Smith said.  

Feeding South Florida's mission is to feed South Florida's hungry in order to improve their lives.  They do this by distributing food and groceries through their network of not-for-profit organizations, educating the public about the issue, and engaging the community in the fight to end hunger.  Feeding South Florida distributes approximately 2 million pounds of food each month to hungry South Floridians, including children and the elderly, the unemployed and the working poor, the disabled, the homeless, and victims of natural disasters, illness and violence.

Suggested food items for donation include canned meats (tuna, chicken), rice, beans (dry or canned), canned fruits and vegetables, canned soups and meals, pasta meals (ravioli, mac and cheese), plastic jars of peanut butter and jelly.  In addition, checks can be made payable to Feeding South Florida.  Donations are being collected at the Universal Insurance Services headquarters located at 800 Fairway Drive, Suite 320 in Deerfield Beach, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  For more information, please contact Julie F.
