Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

DeviceHive, a Free Machine-to-Machine Communication Framework, Launches, Enabling Remote Management of Smart Devices

DeviceHive, a free open-source cloud-based Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication framework, was launched today by DataArt, a custom software development company that builds advanced solutions for select industries.

In the ever-expanding world of the Internet of Things, ‘smart’ devices and cloud solutions, DeviceHive is designed to function as the missing link in a network of connected devices. Through its cloud-based API (Application Programming Interface), management portal and set of components, including protocols, and open-source libraries, devices can be controlled remotely, regardless of the network topology.

“We created DeviceHive with scalability and flexibility in mind. It is not proprietary for any device manufacturer, and is available via open-source for the community,” said Artyom Astafurov, Chief Innovation Officer at DataArt and Co-Founder of DeviceHive. “The beauty of DeviceHive is that it eliminates the time consuming burden of developing messaging protocol and communication libraries, and lets technology companies focus on developing the functionality of their system. We believe the task of building an M2M solution should be an enjoyable experience.”

DeviceHive is available to the wider community for both personal and professional uses alike, and enables rapid development for the areas including but not limited to: security, clean tech, smart home, remote sensors, telemetry and automation, and with key applications ranging from home and hotel automation and security, to logistics, fleet tracking and clean technology.

“Whether it’s an iPhone app talking to a Smart Energy Thermostat over ZigBee gateway connected to the cloud, or a fleet tracking device connected over a 3G network talking to Google Maps – we have it all covered!” says Astafurov.

Once all the components of DeviceHive are deployed, the framework allows queuing and delivering commands between devices and client applications, with a ready-made and easily customizable API. Among similar M2M communication networks on the market, DeviceHive is the only non-proprietary open-source self-contained platform.

The DeviceHive website not only supplies the components for connecting various devices, it educates the community about M2M, provides sample uses, and offers blog posts by enthusiasts.
