SAN DIEGO, Nov. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ESET, the leader in proactive protection celebrating 25 years of its technology this year, has just wrapped up another successful presence at the AVAR conference - one of the most renowned international IT security gatherings and the main anti-malware conference in the Asia/Pacific region. ESET, as a consistent participant and long-time AVAR member, contributed three presentations, one of which was selected as the best paper of the conference by the conference delegates. Furthermore, as part of the conference, Juraj Malcho, chief research officer at ESET, was chosen by WildList International as their Reporter of the Year.

Researchers Alex Matrosov and Eugene Rodionov from ESET's Moscow-based research team were chosen by the delegates of the AVAR conference in Hangzhou, China as the conference's best speakers. They presented a paper on Festi Botnet Analysis and Investigation.

"The Best Speaker Award is decided by the conference delegates and we had many high quality contributions to choose between," said Allan Dyer, conference chair. "I would like to congratulate Aleksandr Matrosov and Eugene Rodionov on winning the award, and thank them for their excellent presentation."

In addition, Juraj Malcho, chief research officer at ESET, was chosen by WildList International as their Reporter of the Year. The mission of the WildList Organization is to provide accurate, timely and comprehensive information to both users and product developers about "In the Wild" computer malware. The WildList is a list of computer malware found in the wild and reported by a diverse group of over 55 qualified volunteers called reporters. It is made available free of charge by the organization. Perfect detection of WildList sets is one of the compulsory requirements for ICSA certification and Virus Bulletin VB100 awards - for which ESET has an unrivalled record of success. This award is additional independent confirmation of the high quality work performed by ESET's malware detection team.

"These awards are further proof of the strength of ESET research and technology," said Palo Luka, ESET chief technology officer. "We are all proud to have such an outstanding team and talent. In addition, the presence and achievements of ESET and its people at the AVAR conference highlight our partnership with genuine leaders in the industry."

The mission of the Association of Anti-Virus Asia Researchers (AVAR) is to prevent the spread and damage caused by malicious software, and to develop cooperative relationships among anti-malware software experts in Asia. AVAR is an independent, not-for-profit organization focusing on the Asia Pacific region and hosting the annual AV industry conference.
