Eclipse News Desk Eclipse Web Tools Platform (WTP) 1.5 Released
WTP 1.5 shipped on schedule on June 30 as part of the Eclipse 3.2 Callisto simultaneous release

 I'm pleased to announce that WTP 1.5 shipped on schedule on June 30 as part of the Eclipse 3.2 Callisto simultaneous release. WTP is part of this ten project mega-release, a first for the Eclipse Foundation, and a sign of things to come. As the Eclipse family of projects becomes more horizontally integrated it will be crucial to have all the parts developed on a coordinated schedule and released together. Now that the Canada Day/Independence Day long weekend is over, it's time for all Eclipse users to download this new release and explore the latest goodies. Here's a short list of what's New and Noteworthy in WTP 1.5: The editors have been upgraded. The source editors in the HTML, XML, JSP family now support the frequently requested ability to fold code. You can enable this feature through the Preferences dialog. The XSD and WSDL graphical editors have a new UML-like look and feel. The Web service wizard has a cool new first page that sports dual life cycle sliders (one for services and one for clients). Many settings can now be viewed at a glance and controlled from the first page. Also, the Web service runtime support has been upgraded to Axis 1.3. The Web Services Explorer has upgraded UDDI login support. Integration with the Eclipse Test and Performance Tools Platform (TPTP) project is improved. You can start servers in Profile mode now. Although not visible to the end user, parts of the online Help are now based on DITA, a new XML documentation standard. The Help content is also much improved. WTP 1.5 has several internal architectural improvements too. The support for J2EE projects has been redesigned and there are aids for migrating projects created in WTP 1.0. The J2EE Project Navigator has been converted to use the new Eclipse platform Common Navigator which was contributed by WTP. The I18N support is now based on the ICU4J library. The new Eclipse plug-in versioning mechanism and message bundles are now supported. And, of course, there have been many quality and performance improvements. WTP 1.5 also contains the first steps towards Java EE 5 support via the JavaServer Faces (JSF) and Java Persistence API (JPA), aka Dali, incubator projects which have been released at the 0.5 version level. Finally, the initial builds of AJAX tools are available from the AJAX Tools Framework (ATF) incubator subproject. You can download WTP 1.5 via convenient "all-in-one" zips for Windows, Linux, and Mac. These contain the Eclipse platform plus WTP and all of its prerequisites and are available from the WTP 1.5 download page. You can also simply download Eclipse 3.2 and use the Callisto update manager site to download WTP and its required Features. tags: web wtp tools eclipse callisto
