Lidl has doubled the number of lines in its Deluxe range this year in preparation for Christmas after sales of its premium quality Deluxe products increased by 200% from 2011 to 2012. Lidl initially trialled the Deluxe range in its stores 4 years ago to ascertain if demand was there for premium quality products and has since expanded its range as a result of the sales uplift.

The Deluxe range was famously launched with the Whole Lobster as the highlight product, with Beef Wellington, Scallops in Chablis Sauce, and even Caviar following on as products most popular with customers.

The increase in Deluxe products is in response to a marked shift in customer shopping habits whereby consumers are tending to choose to buy delicacy food products and fine wines to enjoy at home rather than eating out. Reports have shown that consumers are more likely to shop at supermarkets such as Lidl for fine goods as a way to find smarter ways of enjoying restaurant-quality products while sticking steadfastly to their monthly food and wine budget.
