ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR -- (Marketwire) -- 11/26/12 -- The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Newfoundland and Labrador has submitted its report redrawing the province's federal electoral map to the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada. The report was tabled in the House of Commons today.

Six of the seven current electoral districts will ultimately see modifications to their boundaries; only the district of Labrador will remain unchanged. The report follows on public hearings that took place across the province between July 3 and 25, 2012.

"We carefully considered the much-valued feedback received in presentations and in written submissions," said the Honourable Keith J. Mercer, chair of the three-member commission. "Our decisions were grounded in an ongoing review of the implications of any proposed boundary adjustments on all electoral districts."

Members of Parliament will have a chance to review the report and file objections to it in the coming weeks. The public should therefore raise any concerns about the electoral map with their MP. While the commission takes these objections into consideration, it has the final say on where the new electoral boundaries lie.
