I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

What:

Session speakers include:

Matthew Eastwood, group vice president of enterprise platforms at IDC – Eastwood will discuss the evolution of the data center and the challenges IT organizations face as they migrate their infrastructure to NGDCs and look to take advantage of the benefits of the private cloud. In his presentation titled, "Moving Beyond Virtualization to the Cloud," Eastwood will provide guidance on the unique requirements of network security infrastructure and the difficulty of adapting it to meet the demands of highly virtualized and dynamic environments.

Jeffery M. Sherwood, CISSP, founder and principal security strategist at Sherwood & Associates, LLC – Sherwood will provide his insights on how to leverage Crossbeam in the NGDC based on his extensive experience as both a Crossbeam customer and security expert and consultant. Previously, Sherwood was at H&R Block, where he managed its information security operations team, and later served as the company's principal security strategist. Additionally, Sherwood participated in a U.S. Senate Forum for Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, which contributed to the Presidential Cybersecurity Policy released in June 2009. He later served as an advisor on the IRS's ETAAC Security Sub-Committee for the advancement of the security for the nation's tax preparation and electronic filing infrastructure.

Peter Doggart, senior director of global marketing at Crossbeam – Doggart will outline how IT professionals are evolving traditional network security infrastructure by adopting server virtualization attributes to more effectively support the private cloud and NGDC. Doggart will share highlights from Crossbeam's data center survey, which cites network security as the primary reason IT organizations are stalled in their NGDC efforts. Attendees will learn about the hurdles their peers are facing and understand how new flexible and adaptable NGDC environments are causing organizations to "Rethink the Network."

When/Where:

Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum from 12-3 p.m. EST.
