QThru Launches iOS and Android Apps to Further Enhance the In-Store Shopping Experience
Mobile point-of-sale platform allows shoppers to simply scan and purchase items using smartphones

SEATTLE, Dec. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, QThru the mobile point-of-sale platform that allows consumers to shop, scan and checkout using their smartphones, announced the launch of its mobile app – for iOS and Android – taking the in-store shopping experience to the next level.

The QThru app provides simplicity to the shopping experience by allowing shoppers to leave their wallets at home, skip long checkout lines and safely make purchases by using their smartphone to scan items as they shop and later check-out by scanning a kiosk QR code.

Key features of the app include:

  • Barcode Scanning: Scan barcodes on items to add them to your cart
  • Shopping Lists: Shop from your personally created shopping list
  • Deals: View in-store specials and savings
  • Favorites: Quickly gain access to your favorite items saved on your favorites list
  • Product Details: Get product details such as nutritional information
  • Total Spend: See a running total so you can see just how much you're about to spend
  • Payment: Q-Code checkout for instant payment and receipt
  • Digital Scale: Allows you to purchase produce and bulk items using a custom digital scale solution

"Many brick and mortar retailers are recognizing their customers want a fast and easy shopping experience that makes them feel valued," said Aaron Roberts, founder and CEO of QThru. "With QThru shoppers are empowered to select and purchase items in-store, right from their smartphones – further strengthening their allegiance to retailers."

QThru has completed a successful beta test at the Ridge IGA Supermarket in Snoqualmie, Washington, and is now planning to bring the service to 14 grocery and retail stores in the Seattle area by the end of March 2013. Retailers benefit from QThru' s cost-effective mobile platform that easily integrates with a retailer's POS system, allowing for real-time updates to products and pricing as well as secure PCI-compliant credit card payment. At the same time, the QThru experience attracts a demographic of smartphone users and leverages shopping history to better target product selection and placement.

"It's been extremely exciting to have worked with QThru as its beta test partner and be part of such a cutting edge mobile technology," said Tyler Meyers, president of the Myers Group to which the Ridge IGA Supermarket belongs. "We want to be able to offer our customers the best shopping experience possible and QThru's mobile app does just that – it gives customers the ease of check-out they've been waiting for."

QThru CEO and Co-Founder Aaron Roberts has spent 20 years building consumer-facing services through technology. Most recently he was a senior software development manager with RIM (Research in Motion), leading and growing successful products used by tens of millions of customers.
