Wireless and Mobile Solutions Leader Smith Micro Software Celebrates 30 Years of Innovation

Developer of wireless, enterprise and consumer software applications, Smith Micro Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMSI) is celebrating its thirtieth year in business.

William W. Smith, Jr., President and CEO, started Smith Micro with the goal of making a living doing something fun. Under his leadership, the company has evolved from dial-up modem and fax software to a publicly traded, global technology provider creating the latest in mobile and wireless innovations. November 30, 2012 marked three decades in achievement.

In the mid-80s, Smith Micro had five employees working in a small, two-room office in Huntington Beach, California. Today, its global network of employees and customers spans four continents, with headquarters in Aliso Viejo, California. From the company’s first product, Stock Portfolio System, to today’s mobility solutions aimed at wireless network operators, device manufacturers, enterprises and government agencies, Smith Micro has been able to innovate and adapt through multiple waves of technology evolution.

Smith Micro was an early innovator in wireless connectivity software. As fax modems became pervasive, so did the company’s products among modem vendors such as IBM, AT&T, Motorola, Hayes and US Robotics. In 1999, the company transitioned from analog modem to the digital wireless device market, and its QuickLink products became the top selling connection managers for many of the world’s largest wireless network operators.
