They mean to accelerate storage innovation

Samsung has acquired Nvelo, a Silicon Valley storage software start-up that spun out of Denali in June 2010 when Denali was acquired by Cadence Design Systems. Samsung didn't say what it paid for all of Nvelo's technology and staff. Nvelo supplies SSD caching for both consumer and enterprise computing platforms to break the I/O bottleneck and retrieve data faster. It's supposed to optimize the use of SSDs in storage subsystems. Its storage technology is expected to be integrated into Samsung's SSD technologies to provide Samsung customers with a more diversified portfolio of NAND storage solutions.
They mean to accelerate storage innovation. Nvelo has been introducing its flagship Dataplex product to OEMs, HDD and SSD vendors. Dataplex is supposed to delivers the performance of solid-state drives along with the price and capacity of hard disk drives through kernel-level adaptive caching and data management technologies. It's reportedly bundled with products from flash vendors such as OCZ Technology, Corsair and Crucial. The widgetry is said to be able to identify the data used most often storing it in both the cache and main storage. It's intended for smartphone, notebook, desktop and server environments. Samsung is doubtless thinking mostly of its smartphone and tablet empire. Nvelo says it benefited from over three years of R&D and business development incubation within Denali. It also took all the Dataplex engineering, marketing and business development people when it spun out. Last year it got a $6.56 million A round from SKS Capital and Cadence.
