Global Carbon Capture and Storage Planned Installed Capacity to Hit 10,000 Megawatts in 2020

FARMINGTON, Conn., Dec. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Carbon capture and storage has potential to assume a core role in the energy mix of many nations. Countries like the United Kingdom are already planning and implementing new projects such as an online database to gauge how much offshore carbon dioxide storage space is realistically available. In Australia, the $208 million Callide Oxyfuel Project has entered the demonstration phase and marks the continent's first carbon capture plant.

Three trend-capturing market research reports selected by Global Information Inc (GII) break down the global carbon capture and storage market and provide innovative insights for executives.

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) for Coal-Fired Plants - Opportunity Assessment and Key Country Analysis to 2025

The total installed capacity of global coal-fired Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) amounted to 238 Megawatts (MW) at the end of 2011. This includes pilot demonstration projects only, as there are not yet any large-scale coal power projects online. In 2008, the 30 MW capacity Schwarze Pumpe plant came online, which uses an oxy-firing capture process. Two more pilot projects came online in the US in the same year. Following this, Australia, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy also completed the construction of CCS pilot projects. On the basis of the CCS demonstration projects that have already been announced globally, 10 Gigawatts (GW) of capacity is expected to have come online by 2020.
