2013 iaedp Symposium Schedule Reveals Emphasis on Innovative Eating Disorder Treatments
Features 44 Different Sessions in Five Days by Top Eating Disorder Professionals

PEKIN, Ill., Dec. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp) has released the 2013 program lineup for its 27th Annual Symposium at the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort, featuring 44 sessions that address the latest in eating disorder treatment, causes and science. The Symposium will take place over a five-day period, March 20-24, with a focus on innovative approaches to eating disorder treatment. 

The Symposium kicks off Wednesday, March 20 with four presentations by leading eating disorder professionals, including "From the Science to the Session" with Michael Strober, PhD and Carolyn K. Costin, MA, who will discuss several new research findings in the field of eating disorders and what these mean to patients and recovery.

Thursday, March 21 will feature 12 different sessions, including keynote speaker, Craig L. Johnson, PhD, FAED, CEDS, presenting new developments regarding treatment, research, credentialing and advocacy. Other Thursday highlights include sessions on eating disorders in children, treatment for athletes with eating disorders and nutritional guidelines.

Three keynote speakers will be among 12 sessions Friday, March 22. Pamela M. Peeke, MD, MPH, FACP, will give two presentations on food and addiction while Dr. Johnson will speak about the use of Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) in the treatment of eating disorders. Refeeding practices will also be discussed by Ovidio Bermudez, MD, FAAP, FSAHM, FAED, CEDS.

Saturday, March 23 will have 11 different workshops and presentations. Highlights include: "Demystifying EMDR Therapy & The Language of Trauma";  "Heart-Centered Mediation Workshop" and "Outside the Box: Unconventional Approaches for Difficult Cases."

The Symposium will come to a close on Sunday, March 24 with five sessions. Raymond Di Giuseppe, PhD, a specialist in anger diagnostic disorders, will present "The Effect of Anger Comorbidy on Treatment in Eating Disorders and Other DSM Disorders," which will explore the characteristics of anger that are important in defining it as a clinical problem.
