I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Thirty Nine Essex Street Chambers Launches its Singapore Office

LONDON, January 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

Thirty Nine Essex Street Chambers will today officially launch its new office in Maxwell Chambers, Singapore, and will be celebrating the opening with a cocktail reception set to be attended by some of the most renowned names in the legal market.

Thirty Nine Essex Street is a leading set of barrister's Chambers based in London, with an office in Manchester.  Its members are advocates whose experience includes acting in litigation before courts in various countries.  Members have also appeared before domestic and international arbitral tribunals under most forms of arbitration rules, including the AAA, CIETAC, DIAC, HKIAC, ICC, LCIA, SIAC, UNCITRAL and WIPO.  This experience extends to Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe (Western and Eastern), the Caribbean and the USA.

Thirty Nine Essex Street was recently awarded 'Chambers of the Year' at the British Legal Awards 2012, and also picked up an array of awards both for individuals and practice areas at the Chambers Bar Awards earlier this year. Robert Jay QC, Joint Head of Chambers, was also named 'Barrister of the Year' at The Lawyer Awards 2012.

David Barnes, Chief Executive and Director of Clerking says:

"Chambers has seen an increasing demand for our services in Asia and members are frequently engaged on matters in the region. Having a base in Asia will allow us to strengthen our ability to bring the highly specialised skills of our barristers to clients based outside of the UK, whilst complementing the existing local expertise.   This is part of an ongoing commitment by Chambers to the Asian region, and it is an extremely exciting time for us."

The Singapore office will be managed by Roderick Noble, Director of Asian Business, who is now based in Asia on a permanent basis.  Sean Wilken QC takes up his position as Head of Thirty Nine Essex Street in Singapore with many other members of chambers committed to spending significant periods of time in the region. Chambers will provide advocacy, arbitration and mediation services on commercial, financial, construction, public, public international, regulatory and environmental law.

Thirty Nine Essex Street's Singapore Chambers is an extension to its already established presence in the Southern Hemisphere. Overseas members include Charles Manzoni QC who is based in Hong Kong on a full-time basis and Vincent Nelson QC in the Caribbean, along with associate members in Australia and South Africa, but the new office will act as a hub to fully service jurisdictions across Asia including Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Cambodia and Laos, China and India.
