I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

AVG Technologies Honored by Business Solutions Magazine as 2013 Best Channel Vendor for Security Technology

AVG Technologies (NYSE: AVG), the provider of Internet and mobile security to 143 million active users, announced today it has been recognized as a Best Channel Vendor 2013 in the security technology category by Business Solutions Magazine (BSM). The award is based on votes by BSM’s VAR readership.

AVG, which debuted its new AVG CloudCare™ small business IT management platform and services for the SMB channel to accolades in the fall of 2012, earned its highest marks in the BSM VAR readers survey for product features, reliability and innovation. AVG CloudCare provides small business resellers and managed service providers (MSPs) with a free-of-charge, easy-to-use cloud-based administrative platform that allows them to manage AVG’s award-winning antivirus and content-filtering services remotely at an affordable price for their entire customer base via a single console. AVG CloudCare includes AVG Remote IT (currently in beta), which provides another free tool that lets resellers remotely access and trouble-shoot issues on their customers’ devices from anywhere.

In addition to product achievement, the BSM VAR survey also gave high ratings to AVG channel programs, customer support and service and channel friendliness.

“We are proud to have created AVG CloudCare with the input of our SMB channel partners, and continue to gather their input to refine and advance the product. The BSM award is validation that our dedication to the channel and work in close partnership with our managed service providers and IT resellers brings mutual benefits,” said Luke Walling, VP SMB Sales and Operations in North America. “We are delighted by the BSM honor and look forward to continued advancement in and expansion of AVG’s channel in 2013.”

During 2012, AVG was also the recipient of two other channel awards for exemplary service to US channel partners, including the SMB Nation 2012 Hot Shot Award for Security and the ASCII Group’s Esteemed Noble Partner award.

BSM Survey Methodology

From mid-September through early October, BSM conducted a Web-based survey of its VAR subscribers in partnership with Penn State University. BSM asked VAR subscribers to rate their vendor partners on a scale of 0 to 5 (worst to best) in 7 categories: Service/Support, Channel Friendly, Channel Programs, Product Features, Product Reliability, Product Innovation, and VAR Margins. A total of 7,505 validated votes were cast in the survey. Scores were tallied by the BSM editorial staff using the methodology provided by Penn State. Award categories included: Data Collection & Mobility; Data Collection Label Software; ECM Hardware; ECM Software; General Computing; Networking; Payment Processing; Physical Security; POS Hardware; POS Software; Power Protection; PSAs; RMM Software; Security; Storage, and VoIP. The top 5% of vendors in each surveyed technology category were selected as Best Channel Vendors. AVG was selected in the Security technology category with an overall score of 4.42.
