I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Bidding Underway For New York City Opera Online Warehouse Auction; Closes January 30th
--Tiger Group conducting online auction of sets, costumes and props from more than 80 world-famous productions.

NORTH BERGEN, N.J., Jan. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In a highly anticipated online auction, Tiger Group's Remarketing Services division is assisting the New York City Opera (NYC Opera) as it sells a warehouse worth of sets, props and costumes from former productions of "Carmen", "Tosca", "The Barber of Seville" and nearly 80 others. Bidding is now underway at www.SoldTiger.com and will close in rapid succession, live auction style, on January 30, beginning at 10:30 a.m. EST.

This historic auction encompasses about 90 percent of NYC Opera's inventory of Viking helmets, princess gowns, castle ramparts and other operatic mainstays of its world-famous productions. The in-person preview will be on Saturday, January 26, and Monday and Tuesday, January 28 and 29, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at NYC Opera's warehouse at 2220 91st St. in North Bergen, just across the Hudson River from Manhattan.

"To stroll through NYC Opera's rented warehouse is quite an experience - like stepping into a program guide from the company's celebrated past," said Jeff Tanenbaum, president of Tiger Remarketing Services.

Theater and opera companies, college drama departments, filmmakers and others involved in the dramatic arts now have the opportunity to shop from a huge selection of sets, props and costumes at auction prices, added Tanenbaum, who has directed a number of auctions for prop houses and studios. The sale also represents an opportunity for antique dealers, opera fans and the general public interested in collecting pieces from NYC Opera's productions.

The online sale includes sets and costumes created by noted designers such as Maurice Sendak, Allen Moyer, Lloyd Evans, Desmond Heeley, Ming Cho Lee, Michael Yeargan, Carl Toms, David Zinn, Martin Pakledinaz, Anna Oliver, Ashley Martin-Davis, Anthony Baker, and Thierry Bousquet.

These and other lots, available piecemeal, come from more than 80 productions, including "La Boheme", "Hansel and Gretel", "Madama Butterfly", "Marriage of Figaro", "La Rondine", "Tosca", "La Traviata" and many more.

In an effort to keep historic productions intact, Tiger is providing a short window for interested parties to submit offers on complete productions. "That means all items currently held by NYC Opera for a particular production," Tanenbaum said. Parties interested in the immediate purchase of complete productions may contact:  auctions@tigergroupllc.com or call 800-758-8443.
