NEW YORK, Jan. 18, 2013  /PRNewswire/ -- The 59th annual Winter Antiques Show opens to the public on Friday, January 25, with eight new exhibitors, thousands of works available, and a special loan exhibition, Newport: The Glamour of Ornament, celebrating The Preservation Society of Newport County. The Show features 73 renowned experts in American, English, European, and Asian fine and decorative arts dating from the 7th century BCE through the 1970s. Every object exhibited at the Show is vetted for quality and authenticity. Held at the Park Avenue Armory (67th Street and Park Avenue, New York City) through February 3, 2013, show hours are 12 noon-8 p.m. daily except Sundays and Thursday, 12 noon-6 p.m.

Daily tickets are $20.00 and include the Show's catalogue and lectures. The 73 exhibitors are experts in their fields and encourage visitors to meet with them to learn about antiques and the importance of preserving and living with history.  There is something for all interests:  American and Old Master paintings, Presidential items, Modernist furniture, ancient Roman sculpture, jewelry, Italian glass, modern photography, English furniture, antique rugs, garden ornament, Americana, and much more.

Notable highlights include:

• A letter written by President Abraham Lincoln (dated May 1862) to Major General George B. McClellan at Kenneth W. Rendell Gallery.
• Jewelry designed by Jean Vendome, Louise Nevelson, Pablo Picasso, and Alexander Calder at Didier Ltd.
• A unique desk and chair made in 1965 by renowned Studio Craft furniture designer Wendell Castle at Lost City Arts.
• A full suit of armor (c. 1580) from Northern Italy at Peter Finer.
• Pieces by Birger Kaipiainen, one of Finland's best-known ceramic designers, at Hostler Burrows.
• A Roman mosaic featuring a theater mask (c. 2nd century A.D.) at Rupert Wace Ancient Art.
• A collection of 22 Samuel van Eenhoorn Delftware pieces—a cache larger than those owned by Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum or the Musee Royaux in Brussels from Aronson of Amsterdam.

The Show's net proceeds support East Side House Settlement, a non-profit institution that provides social services to community residents in the South Bronx. The Winter Antiques Show was created by the charity in 1955, and is still owned and produced by East Side House. The Show is the only major one in New York from which all net proceeds benefit a charity.
