Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Swisscom Deploys Magic-Box, the World’s First Carrier Grade Concurrent Dual-Band Access Point Featuring Quantenna’s 4x4 WLAN Solution

Quantenna Communications, Inc., the leader in ultrareliable Wi-Fi video networking for whole-home entertainment, announced today that Swisscom started deploying to its broadband customers in Switzerland a new Quantenna based WLAN product: Magic-Box which is a dual concurrent dual band router. The product features Quantenna award winning 4x4 802.11n MIMO technology. It enables reliable wireless streaming of video content throughout the home to multiple TVs as well as to tablets and smart phones.

Swisscom and Quantenna enjoy a longtime development partnership. In 2010, Swisscom was the first service provider to deploy wireless whole-home coverage at very high data rates, which is mandatory for services and applications such as HDTV. The new Magic-Box router is an open access point that interoperates with third party clients such as tablets and smart phones.

“Swisscom has been deploying multiple generations of Quantenna based products which deliver the best carrier grade performance. We are also collaborating in the future with Quantenna to bring to market their next generation products bringing superior performance for unique carrier grade video features. Swisscom is constantly innovating and bringing leading edge technologies to their customer,” said Andreas Martschitsch, head of home network at Swisscom.

Quantenna standard-based 802.11n and 802.11ac Wi-Fi products solve today’s home networking challenges, of delivering ultra-reliable, high-speed wireless coverage throughout the whole home. This enables service providers to save millions on deploying multi-room DVR for pay TV services. Only Quantenna has the Wi-Fi video grade performance architecture to deliver a wired like user experience over wireless networks in the most demanding environments.

“We are excited to be bringing carrier grade performance to the open access point that reliably interoperates with clients such as tablets and smart phones” said Dr. Sam Heidari, CEO at Quantenna. “We are pleased to extend the long-term partnership with Swisscom that brought innovative 'world first' carrier grade wireless products to the market. Quantenna solutions are enabling service providers to open their network to consumer devices without sacrificing the quality of their pay-tv video service. Quantenna added features allow the efficient use of the bandwidth while always protecting the quality of the pay video that service providers offer. Our relationship with Swisscom is an exemplary partnership with strong ties and common vision, and we look forward to further this partnership with our 802.11ac chipset”.
