Canadian Center of Science and Education Reveals Importance of Funding Research Projects, Highlights Recent Financial Awards to Simon Fraser University

TORONTO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/04/13 -- Simon Fraser University is an educational institution that is known for its research endeavors. To facilitate these initiatives, the researchers at Simon Fraser University have received a long list of grants, scholarships, and other funding to cover the expenses associated with their work. The school has recently announced that two national research projects in which it is involved will be receiving $8.7 million in financial resources. According to the article, The Prometheus Project and the ATLAS Tier-1 Data Analysis Centre will be receiving a combined $8.7 million to fund their activities, with The Prometheus Project being awarded $7.7 million and ATLAS $1 million.

According to the article: "The [Prometheus] [P]roject's 10 principal researchers and 20 other scientists at SFU and other B.C. research universities aim to create new materials science and engineering technology innovations that trigger and support sustained economic growth by creating, transforming and obsolescing entire industries." The Prometheus Project is a relatively new endeavor that strives to create a headquarters of sorts for activities in advanced materials science and engineering.

The funding awarded to ATLAS will be used, the article notes, to upgrade the centre and improve the ability for scientists who are working in Canada to reach their research and data analysis goals.

"Simon Fraser University has attracted a great deal of funding for its research initiatives," comments a representative from Canadian Center of Science and Education. "In fact, our organization provides funding to Simon Fraser University for its Public Knowledge Project, also known as PKP."
