Me having experience dealing with cloud based tech and consulting and integration services, I realize the need for a secure and consistant cloud service. Many people are concerned with the privacy, or lack thereof, that could occur with storing personal documents into a non-physical storage unit. I can see, though with companies such as ours and Metacloud, we are working toward a more secure and easy to use cloud system for both personal and professional use. Spursh Parikh www.sererra.com

Tekelec Continues to Lead Diameter Signaling Market with 75%-85% Share Says Exact Ventures

The Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) market “saw tremendous growth in its first full year” and was “dominated by a single firm, Tekelec,” according to industry analyst firm Exact Ventures. The report updated Exact Ventures’ research from June 2012, which credited Tekelec with 75 percent to 85 percent market share.

The new January 2013 report said, “Nothing has happened in the market to indicate that Tekelec has lost any of the market leadership it has established through the first part of 2012.”

Tekelec’s achieved its dominant position according to the report by:

  • Leveraging its legacy in the SS7 signaling market;
  • Early entrance into the DSC market; and
  • Strong promotion of the Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) scalability, flexibility and variety of use cases.

Tekelec has more than 25 DSR customers and Exact Ventures says, “it is clear that Tekelec has won the vast majority of the large-scale DSC deployments to date.” Customers include T-Mobile, Telstra Global, Syniverse, and multiple Tier 1 operators in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Exact Ventures’ research comes in the new report, “Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) Vendor & Forecast Report, 2012-2017.” The firm forecasts that the total DSC market will grow by an average of 50 percent per year from 2012 through 2017, “developing in tandem with the LTE market.”

“Once LTE is deployed and testing begins, operators begin to see the need to manage and control their Diameter traffic. Since signaling traffic is very difficult to predict, LTE operators have been aggressive about deploying DSCs as insurance against unforeseen surges or spikes in signaling traffic,” said Greg Collins, founder and principal analyst of Exact Ventures, in the report. “As service providers continue to introduce sophisticated applications and data plans that continually need to exchange information with policy servers, subscriber databases, and billing systems, the DSC market will be vital and mission critical to operators for years to come.”

Tekelec’s Diameter Signaling Router gives service providers the scalability, reliability and flexibility to manage mobile data and signaling growth and profit from mobile data services. It is a key component of the New Diameter Network, which relies on the Diameter protocol to exchange network, subscriber, policy, and charging information.

Last month, Exact Ventures’ data also showed Tekelec as the leading independent policy server (PCRF) provider.

“As LTE subscriptions rise, so too will personalized mobile advertising, Voice over LTE and RCS services,” said Houck Reed, vice president of product management and marketing at Tekelec. “Operators are selecting New Diameter Network solutions that accelerate time-to-market for these services and scale to manage signaling traffic that is growing three times faster than mobile data traffic.”
