Looking for Love on Valentine's Day? iovation Finds Large Increase in Online Daters Using Mobile Devices
15 Percent of All Online Dating Site Activity Conducted From Mobile Phones and Tablets, 65 Percent Surge From 2011; Android Most Commonly Used Device

PORTLAND, OR -- (Marketwire) -- 02/12/13 -- iovation, the leading provider of device reputation protection against online fraud and abuse, revealed today that 15 percent of all transactions and activities it protected on online dating sites originated from mobile devices in 2012, a 65 percent increase from 2011. Leveraging ReputationManager 360 -- iovation's device reputation and real-time fraud prevention service -- iovation determined that the top mobile devices consumers used to access dating sites last year were:
1. Android Phones -- 49 percent of all mobile transactions "Although mobile devices are already commonly used on online dating sites by analyzing iovation's device usage trends we can see that their use will soon become the norm rather than the exception," said Molly O'Hearn, Vice President of Operations at iovation. "As consumers become more comfortable with using mobile devices in online dating, cybercriminals will also expand their use of mobile phones and tablets to exploit others wanting to make romantic connections." Heading into Valentine's Day, iovation warns dating sites to be on the lookout for any potential fraud schemes coming from mobile devices. In 2012, iovation found that 0.3 percent of all activity on online dating sites conducted from mobile devices was fraudulent, compared to 1.36 percent from desktop computers and laptops on online dating sites. The company reported that the most used mobile devices for fraud on online dating sites were:
