Devicescape Provides Free, Automated Wi-Fi Across Barcelona During MWC
"MagniFi MWC" App Offers Free Wi-Fi and Free Drinks to the Media Through PopWiFi

SAN BRUNO, CA and BARCELONA, SPAIN -- (Marketwire) -- 02/25/13 -- Mobile World Congress -- At the world's largest show for mobile devices and wireless operators, attendees face a significant challenge: finding high-quality connectivity without incurring excessive roaming charges or other service provider fees. Devicescape today announces that it will offer MagniFi MWC, a free app that automatically connects users' mobile devices to the best available Wi-Fi connection for free.

MagniFi MWC also provides a real-life demonstration of Devicescape's brand-new proximity marketing service, PopWiFi: Journalists can pick up free drinks, compliments of Devicescape, in select bars around Barcelona simply by walking into them with a MagniFi-enabled phone and redeeming the voucher it displays. A limited number of codes to activate this feature will be available to the media at stand 2A105 at Mobile World Congress, February 25-28.

Devicescape offers intelligent network selection and the world's largest Curated Virtual Network (CVN) of over 12 million amenity Wi-Fi hotspots, enabling mobile operators to magnify capacity-reach while elevating the "always best connected" experience. Last week, the company announced PopWiFi, a new proximity marketing service that enables amenity Wi-Fi owners to send messages to customers connected to their in-store Wi-Fi networks. MagniFi MWC will demonstrate PopWiFi for users that enter one of the many designated bars around town, where a message (marked by an i) will appear on their devices that gives them a voucher for a free drink.

MagniFi MWC, only available on Android, also facilitates connections at other locations offering city-based Wi-Fi, commercial hotspots or amenity Wi-Fi at the many retail and food establishments around the city. Devicescape has sponsored certain commercial Wi-Fi networks to be made available for free for the duration of Mobile World Congress.

"The MagniFi MWC app, backed by our Curator Service and PopWiFi, will give Mobile World Congress a real taste of our mission at Devicescape," said Dave Fraser, CEO of Devicescape. "We believe connectivity should be seamless, automatic and mutually beneficial for those providing public Wi-Fi and for customers. Our aim with this app is to show attendees what life is like without connectivity worries."

After downloading the app and experiencing seamless connectivity and an elevated user experience, visit Devicescape at Stand 2A105 in Hall 2 to get a behind-the-scenes view of how venue owners sign up and interact with PopWiFi and how Devicescape's CVN of Wi-Fi hotspots is extending the capacity-reach of wireless operator networks.

Also on display at Devicescape's stand will be visualizations of the composition and growth patterns of the CVN, the CVN's capacity impact in conjunction with small cells and base stations and how Curator Auto-Connect works to elevate the subscriber experience. Devicescape will share information on the CVN's global growth, as well as from a regional and country-based perspective. Wireless operators can learn about the ROI of Devicescape's Curator Service and experience the value proposition while interacting with PopWiFi at the stand's very own Bar CellOna.

The company's Curator Service has been shortlisted for the GSMA's 2013 Global Mobile Awards for "Best Cloud Based Technology for Mobile;" winners will be announced at the show on Tuesday, February 26. For more information, to book a briefing or to view a demonstration of the Curator Service at the Devicescape suite, please contact Follow Mobile World Congress and Devicescape's activity on Twitter at @GSMA and @Devicescape and through the official hashtag, #MWC13.

MagniFi MWC is currently available on Google Play and can be downloaded here. After downloading, the app will prompt users to request an activation code.
