Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Vtesse Extends its ROADM Network to Connect Telehouse London Data Centres

Vtesse, the leading UK business communications provider, has today announced it has upgraded its services into the Telehouse data centre campus in London’s Docklands, adding Telehouse to its expanding multi-degree ROADM (Re-configurable Optical Add Drop Multiplexers) node network.

These upgrades mean Telehouse’s customers can now gain access to ultra-high bandwidth solutions in the UK’s shortest possible lead-times, with 10Gbps connectivity available in just 15 working days – a drastic reduction on the average industry range of 40 to 60 working days.

Vtesse first partnered with Telehouse in 2007 when the company established its presence in Telehouse’s London data centres. The relationship has since grown, with Vtesse working closely with Telehouse and its parent company, KDDI, and their customers, to provide high bandwidth Ethernet, fibre channel and IP transit connectivity. The growing demand for such services has been one of the key drivers for these new ROADM upgrades. While ROADM networks have previously been associated with providing operational benefits to network operators, Vtesse has recognised how ROADM technology can also benefit enterprises with faster installation lead-times and a reliable means to support on-demand, consumption-based IT.

Vtesse’s next-generation ROADM network, removes the need to dispatch engineers to manually turn up 10Gbps or build other new services at intermediate DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) nodes, as these can be remotely configured from Vtesse’s Network Operations Centre instead. This pioneering technology allows for dramatically faster lead-times, as the only field service activities required are the installation of optical components at the end customer locations.

Utilising Vtesse’s Tellabs® 7100 Nano™ Optical Transport System, which provides up to 88 wavelengths per fibre, the upgrade also delivers a huge increase in available capacity, while also ensuring the facilities are connected to Vtesse’s other ROADM nodes located at key data centre sites.

Paul Besley, General Manager Sales and Marketing, Vtesse, commented, “With the increase in on-demand IT cloud solutions, we are seeing a corresponding need for fast turn up of high speed networks, as well as more agile IT infrastructures. Vtesse is responding by offering Gigabit speed services over our ROADM network in just 15 working days, less than half the current industry lead-time. By connecting Telehouse’s data centres to our expanding ROADM network, Telehouse customers can now rapidly connect Docklands to other ROADM sites, as well as to key London locations.”

Michelle Reid, Telehouse’s Sales and Marketing Director said: “We are delighted to extend the Vtesse ROADM capability into Telehouse. We pride ourselves in offering customers the unbeatable level of network capability on the data centre market and Vtesse adds to the vast array of options available at our site”.
