Nimble Flashes New Private Cloud Reference Architecture Around
The Microsoft reference architecture involves a Nimble SmartStack for Windows Server and System Center

Nimble Storage, one of the darlings of the new storage breed - darling if for no other reason than it's managed to collect $98 million from the VC crowd since it started in 2008 - that's pretty darling - has been waving around the plans for a new Microsoft private cloud that's pre-configured, turnkey and certified as a scalable on-premise infrastructure platform.

The Microsoft reference architecture involves a Nimble SmartStack for Windows Server and System Center running on Cisco's UCS servers. It's supposed to be good for 75 virtual machines created by Microsoft's Hyper-V in a highly available environment.

The plans involve a 3U Nimble array, the flash-optimized hybrid storage from its CS200 Series, a minimum of two Cisco C220 M3 rack servers scalable to four, two Cisco UCS fabric extenders and Cisco UCS fabric interconnects, Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V and System Center 2012.

The blueprints anticipate that the widgetry will be used as a building block.

It's supposed to reduce deployment from weeks to days, reduce risk to the client because of the pre-testing, offer investment protection because of its seamless scalability and cut TCO.

The storage can consolidate multiple different virtualized applications reducing power, cooling and space by as much as 75% compared to legacy storage platforms. Nimble's so-called scale-to-fit functionality can also handle non-disruptive and independent scaling of performance and capacity.

It says the resiliency and integrated data protection features of its storage complement the high availability and live migration features of Windows Server 2012's Failover Clustering capabilities, delivering a high degree of system availability.

Nimble also reckons its management tools and proactive wellness support offerings reduce the time spent on management duties, improving IT productivity without impacting service levels,

Nimble developed the first hybrid storage architecture engineered from the ground up to seamlessly integrate flash and high-capacity drives. It's supposed to give customers 10x faster application performance, enhanced backup and disaster recovery, and stress-free operations. The widgetry goes to market through the channel.
