"The government's desire to think 'cloud first' is critical in reducing federal IT costs and AWS GovCloud should ease the transition, while maintaining the necessary security and compliance requirements demanded by the public sector," said Anthony Robbins, vice president of Federal at Brocade, on the release of the Brocade Vyatta vRouter, a robust virtual router, firewall and VPN solution for AWS GovCloud.
This new AWS Region is designed to help U.S. government agencies and contractors move more sensitive workloads into the cloud by addressing their specific regulatory and compliance requirements.
With the introduction of the Brocade Vyatta vRouter for AWS GovCloud, federal agencies and approved affiliates can build secure, elaborate n-tier networks to better handle sensitive workloads within the cloud. Robbins noted, "The Brocade Vyatta vRouter provides the ability for network architects to replicate current data center infrastructures in the cloud, as well as simplify the provisioning of hybrid cloud environments."
Adhering to the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), AWS GovCloud is designed to simplify the management and movement of approved sensitive workloads for the federal sector. Additionally, AWS GovCloud supports the Cloud First Initiative and Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI), both of which are focused on the reduction of capital expenses related to federal IT.
Featuring advanced routing, stateful firewall and IPsec- and SSL-based VPN, the Brocade Vyatta vRouter enables customers to build improved network topologies on the AWS GovCloud. Provisioned as an Amazon Machine Image (AMI), the software networking solution helps reduce capital costs because of its ability to be dynamically deployed on demand.
In deploying the Brocade Vyatta vRouter, customers can securely connect AWS GovCloud to another public or private cloud, as well as provide a secure bridge to a data center. Additionally, the Brocade Vyatta vRouter provides advanced customer-controlled functionality, including a scalable VPN that extends the number of concurrent VPN tunnels offered by AWS.
"The Brocade Vyatta vRouter places more granular control in the hands of customers, allowing them to customize and control their cloud environments," said Kelly Herrell, vice president and general manager of the Software Networking Business Unit at Brocade. "As a result, customers can build more advanced topologies that are tailored to the workloads being carried out on AWS GovCloud."
AWS GovCloud offers the same high level of security as other AWS Regions and supports existing AWS security controls and certifications, such as FISMA, SAS-70, ISO 27001 and PCI DSS Level 1. AWS also provides an environment that enables agencies to comply with HIPAA regulations.
The Brocade Vyatta vRouter is available in AWS GovCloud effective immediately. To get started or for more information on the Brocade Vyatta vRouter for AWS GovCloud, visit: http://www.vyatta.com/product/vyatta-network-os/amazon.
