News Linux.SYS-CON.com moving to a new home
Popular columns including The Penguin Brief and Version Control to continue

In the next couple of weeks, Linux.SYS-CON.com will become part of ITworld.com, our sister site devoted to all kinds of information technology for IT pros. Most of the staff and the best-read parts of Linux.SYS-CON.com will continue in their new home. Specifically, we will continue to publish our most popular columns -- Nick Petreley's Penguin Brief, Joe Barr's Version Control, and Richard Sharpe's Legacy Files -- at their regular frequency. We will publish other Linux-specific content as well, and ITworld.com itself has Linux-related news and product coverage. The most popular past articles from Linux.SYS-CON.com will be migrated over. In addition, all of the email newsletters connected with Linux.SYS-CON.com will continue. The Linux.SYS-CON.com HTTP-based forums have been prospering on ITworld.com for some time and these will continue. We will transfer over the NNTP forums attached to specific articles to that environment as well. If you haven't checked these out, please do -- there are a number of excellent and possibly familiar moderators (Josh Drake and Cameron Laird, for example) and the discussions can be quite lively. We're doing all of this because it gives us the best opportunity to cover Linux in depth in a sustainable way while maintaining quality. Linux.SYS-CON.com has been at a crossroads for some time, faced with a site infrastructure that has needed upgrading. At the same time, we have been seeking better ways to create a sustainable business. Leveraging our sister site's newer and more advanced technology lets us focus on giving you high-quality Linux content and expands Linux.SYS-CON.com's readership to the entire ITworld.com audience. We also want to clarify that this has nothing at all to do with LinuxWorld Expo. Although we have the same parent company (IDG), the producer of LinuxWorld Expo is IDG World Expo, a business unit of IDG just as is ITworld.com. The next LinuxWorld Conference and Expo will be held August 27-30, 2001, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Further information can be found at www.LinuxWorldexpo.com. Our current plan is to make the move on or around April 2. We'll keep you posted and appreciate your continued readership of Linux.SYS-CON.com.
