Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Mobius Introduces Best-of-Breed Search-and-View Capabilities
Extensive Enhancements Improve Productivity and Reduce Operational Costs

RYE, N.Y., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mobius Management Systems, Inc. , a leading provider of integrated solutions for enterprise archiving and records management, today announced new versions of its DocumentDirect(R) family of products that facilitate access to electronically stored information throughout heterogeneous computing environments. Leveraging service-oriented architecture (SOA) to enhance interoperability, DocumentDirect for the Internet version 4.2 eliminates the need to deploy and maintain multiple viewing clients on the desktop by empowering users to search for and retrieve documents stored in multiple, disparate repositories.

"Productivity is dramatically improved when users no longer have to log onto several different systems to retrieve all the information they need to complete a task or satisfy a customer service request," said Tamir Sigal, senior product manager at Mobius, "and operating costs are reduced by eliminating multiple desktop viewers. Further, unified access to disparate information goes a long way to ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, especially in light of recent changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure that make any electronically stored information subject to legal discovery requests. These products help organizations quickly and cost-effectively find 'the needle in the haystack.'"

South Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance (SCFB), the largest domestic insurer in the state and the sixth largest property and casualty carrier, migrated its claims, policy services, accounting, and underwriting departments from the DocumentDirect Windows-based application to DocumentDirect for the Internet 4.2, giving agents and business users a single, integrated browser-based view of digital information.

"We wanted to make it easier for all our users to respond to customers and legal discovery obligations," explained Leigh Miller, CPCU, business technology solutions manager at SCFB. "It was important that we have the ability to archive, easily search and present all electronically stored information in its original native format, including images, Microsoft Office documents, e-mails, and policies, which are in AFP format. To improve productivity and user experience, we integrated DocumentDirect for the Internet with our .NET application for use in underwriting, policy inquiry, and claims and very soon we will be able to display thumbnails of documents, which will be one more way to speed information retrieval."

In addition to enterprise-wide information access, DocumentDirect for the Internet version 4.2 features many additional enhancements that advance the technology for search and retrieval, including:

-- A new, intuitive user interface makes it quick and easy to find and organize documents anywhere in the enterprise from a single Web browser, regardless of the underlying repository. -- Improved searching returns more information, such as metadata about the documents, and includes flexible options for printing, downloading, re-organizing and saving results. -- An enhanced graphical annotation facility enables users to add critical information such as sticky notes to specific locations in a document. -- An "express export" utility makes it easy to define rows, columns and fields of information that can be exported to Microsoft Excel for quick data analysis. -- One-click e-mail sends a document to other users, either as an attachment or a link. -- New customization options provide complete control over the position and the content of toolbars, as well as the ability to add buttons for customized processing. -- Support for rendering color in IBM's Advanced Function Print (AFP) documents includes Graphics Object Content Architecture (GOCA) images embedded in the AFP document as well as fonts, tables, and other graphics.

Important enhancements have also been made to Mobius's Windows-based client products. DocumentDirect 4.2 and DocumentDirect Application Suite 4.2 include an advanced, high-speed filtering facility that enables the specification of simple or complex criteria to quickly find needed information and "express export" for easily organizing information for import into other products. DocuAnalyzer 8 features a new interface and analytical capabilities that extend its functionality for highlighting trends, discovering patterns and uncovering opportunities.

Mobius's Web- and Windows-based search and viewing client products work in conjunction with ViewDirect, the world's most scalable, full-featured archiving platform, which manages billions of items a year as the "archive of record" for leading organizations around the world; and Total Content Integrator (TCI), the premier solution for connecting any information source with any user or application. Together, these products comprise an enterprise archiving and records management solution that enables organizations to cost effectively store, use and dispose of all the digital information in the enterprise.
