Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

Emma K McGrattan Delivers High-Energy SYS-CON.TV Webcast on Eclipse DTP
Ingres Icebreaker Takes Center Stage on SYS-CON.TV's Webcast

Questions as usual flowed in abundantly to Emma K McGrattan when she gave her live Webcast on SYS-CON.TV on "Eclipse DTP as a Platform for Rapid Innovation," a talk that showcased the passion surrounding Ingres's open-source activities, and that show McGrattan herself to be as dedicated and knowledgeable an advocate of open source technologies as you can get.

The Eclipse Foundation is a "perfect match" for Ingres's Icebreaker, said McGrattan.

"As well as rich application development capabilities it also provides graphical database browsing and editing across platforms," she added. The webinar ended with the usual slew of questions, from the highly technical ("Can legacy Ingres ABF/4GL apps run with Icebreaker?") to the more general ("How does Ingres differentiate between the Eclipse development platform and the OpenRoad develpment platform?").

McGrattan is responsible for the development and integration of the Ingres database and associated products and technologies. A leading authority in DBMS and open source technologies, she has been instrumental in the ongoing success of the Ingres product line.

Born in Ireland,McGrattan earned a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering from Dublin City University. Here irish eloquence was very much in evidence today as she gave her webcast.

The DTP bundle can be found at http://community.ingres.com.

Here is the Eclipse Community Site: http://eclipse.org - for more information on the Ingres Eclipse DTP you can see the Ingres Connectivity Guide and the Ingres Quick Start Guide.
