Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

WebAssist eCommerce Solution Augments Adobe Dreamweaver
eCart Targets Small Business and Web Pros

WebAssist is bringing a full-featured eCommerce solution to millions of Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 users, the company says. This major upgrade of the premier Dreamweaver shopping cart features a step-by-step wizard to build an entire checkout application, multi-language button support, increased payment gateway options, and real-time shipping quote capabilities from additional providers.

Small business owners and Web designers alike will benefit from eCart's complete integration into the Adobe platform through Dreamweaver and over-arching ease-of-use. Unlike hosted eCommerce solutions, eCart is easily incorporated into existing site designs for an unmatched personalized storefront. The redesigned user interface and new checkout wizard bring the advanced functionality of eCommerce sites to the everyday Web professional.

"eCart 4 finally makes eCommerce approachable for both small business owners and Web professionals,” said Eric Ott, President of WebAssist. “The broad Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 market can now create completely customized online stores with a minimum of effort and zero technical expertise."

The eCart 4 checkout wizard tackles the complex and overwhelming Web application necessary for a successful online store with simplicity and robustness. Users can easily add state or country tax rules and shipping charges (with real-time quotes from FedEx, UPS, DHL, USPS and Australia Post) to their checkout process. The checkout wizard also handles order management and, if WebAssist's Universal Email is installed, email confirmation. eCart supports all major payment gateways including PayPal and Authorize.Net; users can add the PayPal Express Checkout option to any site with the click of a checkbox.

The layouts created by eCart have been greatly enhanced with an eye toward clarity, both in design and code. Professionally crafted shopping cart displays with multilayered color palettes are provided. The underlying generated code is structured to adhere to Web standards and has been certified by renowned CSS master Eric Meyer. An included button library offers localized buttons in five languages: English, French, German, Spanish, and Dutch.

Hello,

I would like to let you know of a similar initiative of ours that targets Adobe's Apollo Platform and will enable developers to embed a Flex (for Flex-based Apollo apps) or Javascript (for HTML-based Apollo apps) component into their Apollo applications which will then handle all the backend e-Commerce, licensing, and subscription logic.

Please contact me if you have any questions about it. The capability is expected to be released sometime this summer.
