Mforma Announces a Compact Java Interface for Mobile Consumer Applications
Mforma Announces a Compact Java Interface for Mobile Consumer Applications

(May 17, 2002) - Mforma Corporation, a wireless application platform and service provider, announced its enhanced support for the development, management, and provisioning of J2ME applications through its compact Java interface. This interface enables J2ME applications to access the core features of Mforma's Mserver platform including user-authentication, scoring, multiplayer features, location-based information access, and enhanced billing. This architecture provides mobile operators with the ability to drive additional data traffic and generate ongoing revenues through Java-based applications and content.

"While the demand for Java apps is rapidly growing, operators need to understand that Java has the potential to either disconnect the user from the mobile operator and its branded marketing initiatives, or invent an entirely new, interactive community experience," said Dan Kranzler, CEO of Mforma. "Mforma's J2ME strategy helps operators engage its users, increase traffic, and generate additional mobile data revenues. One needs to really understand the wireless carrier environment to fully appreciate the subtleties that remove carrier pain and add real monetizable value to subscribers"

Current J2ME implementations simply allow the wireless user to download stand-alone applications to the handset. Once the applications are in the mobile device, there is no longer an interface to the mobile operator network or connection to a user community. As a result, the mobile operator has no control over the application once it is resident in the phone, and the consumer has no ability to benefit from extremely valuable community features such as unique login, contests, multiuser challenges, and persistent session experience on the network, significantly decreasing a mobile operator's ability to differentiate its offerings and reduce churn.
